Educator Grants

Educator grants are for independent instructors, local music schools, and public/charter schools serving Oakland youth. Our grants provide financial support for students to participate in group music programs and performance experiences.

Grantees will have an opportunity to participate in a showcase sponsored by the Foundation. 

    • Applications open July 1, 2026

    • Applications close August 31, 2026

    • Grants awarded September 2026

    • Serving students who either reside in Oakland or attend Oakland public/charter schools

    • Evidence of 3+ years of teaching experience

    • Instructor with Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Music, highly desirable

    • Accredited school, if applicable

    • Business in good standing with Secretary of State

  • Award amounts up to $5,000

  • The grant can provide support for:

    • Music course instructor subsidy (in addition to California’s Arts, Music, & Instructional Materials Block Grant)

    • Lesson materials (sheet music, books, music stands, and similar supplies)

    • Musical instruments

    • Technical or recording equipment

    • Music-related software

    • Instrument maintenance or repairs

    • Production Equipment

    • Class admission to educational performances

    • Fees associated with competitions

    • Exam or testing fees
